About us? Flip it from you to them

I thought I would share one of my Marketing Takeaway tips with you. One of which will help you too.

Like most businesses your website will have an ‘About Us’, which gives us an idea of who you are, maybe how long you have been in business and possibly some of the stuff in services or your home page.

A few weeks ago, I gave the tip to two business owners of ‘flip your About Us to about them’. If you think about why they are there in the first place, they have problems, needs or desires you can fix. I call it Pains & Gains.

Have you ever …

Are you …

Relate the question to them, then give reasons why you can help.

We are …

We do …

We help people like you to …

Basically is this you? If they relate to it, they feel relieved they are in the right place and confident you can help. You have got them from just looking at your website to wanting to look more, or even better get in touch.

Another way is a little empathy, go for things they will recognise about them. For example, my ideal customers are busy business owners so here’s Doo’s About page - http://www.doomarketing.co.uk/about-us

I was delighted that one of the businesses sent me their home page, with all the questions to their ideal customers. What a difference a few words made to his intro! And so easy to do as he talked to them about it anyway.

To doo: Make a list of questions to your ideal customer, their Pains & Gains, then re-visit your About Us page. Go straight to their Pains, then give an about YOU (the customer) with evidence of how you (the business) can help ... how they will Gain from working with you.
